General Investigation Sub-Agent
The General Investigation Sub-Agent performs focused, read-only investigations for the main agent. It is useful when the orchestrator needs evidence from a codebase, logs, or external research without adding the sub-agent's intermediate reads and tool calls to the orchestrator's context.
Capabilities
- Lists directories and reads files.
- Searches for patterns in the available workspace.
- Uses web search when the delegated task includes the web-enabled toolset.
- Returns a concise, structured report with evidence references such as
path:line.
Constraints
The General Investigation Sub-Agent is delegation-only. It cannot be started with nex --agent=general.
It is strictly read-only: it cannot create, edit, or delete files, and it cannot delegate to another agent. The delegated task must contain the paths, question, and expected report shape needed to produce a self-contained result.
The orchestrator receives the structured report, not the sub-agent's intermediate file reads, tool calls, or reasoning. The report therefore needs to include every finding and its supporting evidence.
